HAPPY NEW YEAR

Well it's a new year, and i'm getting very antsy about planting. Especially after reading Barbara Kingsolver's book, "Animal, Vegetable, Miracle."

In case you haven't heard, the farm/property is up for sale, so until we know who is buying it I won't be sure whether I will be farming here again this summer. Bummer I know, but it's certainly not the end of LiL Organiks. I'll move to new land if I have to...

If you're interested in buying an acreage that's close to town, check it out. There's so much you could do with this property.

Strawberries slowing down...

Unfortunately, the strawberry plants are beginning to slow down so don't be surprised if there aren't any at the next markets!

"Ceasar" salad dressing

i came in for a lunch break from the field and thought i should share this tasty secret....
so far my favourite dressing to have on our own salad greens is as follows...

3 Tbsp olive oil (once i used walnut oil-it was amazing)
3 Tbsp lime juice (the bottled stuff works well if you are lazy like me)
2-3 Tbsp Honey
2-5 cloves garlic
1 Tbsp poppy seeds (optional-they look nice but dont offer much flavour)
S&P

pretty easy eh?
i find anything with too much flavour is weird with the greens, because they are so punchy themselves.

okay now back to the field...

Some pictures from last year...

Sat, Sept 12th, Goldstream market

this week at the market:

carrots
salad greens
strawbs
beets
turnips
garlic
onions
radishes

salad and strawbs always go fast so be there early for those!

YES, we still have STRAWBERRIES

The strawberry plants are still going strong here, last year they produced right into October. I can't do large orders this year, we simply don't have enough! you'll have to show up early at the market if you want any chance of getting some.

CARROTS and ONIONS!

I finally have carrots and onions....come get some at the market on Saturday, Goldstream Station 10am - 2pm.
Or next Wednesday at the Colwood Farmer's Market 4pm - 7pm.

We might be a little haggered at this coming Saturday market, with it being the Beer Fest weekend... but we will be there don't you worry! To make sure of this, we will be harvesting Friday, instead of Saturday morning like usual.

We are very excited for the Zucchini race this saturday, I think Mike has something pretty cool planned.

market updates:
the last Wednesday market of the year will be Sept 30th.
the last Saturday market of the year will be Oct 17th.
